
Connecting Field Measurements with Satellite Water Monitoring
Suspended sediment presents both an environmental and water-resource management challenge. Sediment accumulation can reduce reservoir capacity and interfere with infrastructure, while elevated SSC increases turbidity, limits light penetration, and can affect aquatic habitats. Monitoring its distribution therefore requires information about both concentration and spatial variability. Traditional water sampling provides quantitative measurements, but only at discrete locations and times. Satellite sensors address the spatial limitation by observing entire water bodies repeatedly.
